OLD TOWN
General Idea.
Why?
We hope that this
website will serve as an introduction to Old Town and as a reminder
to existing customers of the current styles we make.
What?
At Old Town we
design an evolving range of everyday clothing. We produce around
seventy garments per week from our own workshop using British
cottons, woollens and linens wherever possible.
With regard to the
design the aim is for simplicity and restraint with minimal styling,
letting the construction influence the look. References are made to
costume of the past but the intention is for contemporary relevance.
Where?
The shop and
workshop is at 49 Bull Street, Holt, Norfolk NR25 6HP.
Our furnishing
fabric designs are available from St Jude's.
Our ‘Stanley’
jacket, ‘Vauxhall’ trousers and ‘Bungalow’ dress styles, in a
limited range of fabrics, are on sale at Labour & Wait, 85,
Redchurch St., London E2.
When?
Tuesday to Saturday
10am - 5pm (you might like to telephone before travelling any great
distance).
How?
Garments are
selected from an evolving range offered in various sizes, fabrics and
colours. Items are individually cut, sewn and finished before
despatch by post.
The process takes
about 4-6 weeks.
Garments are made to
order as opposed to made to measure - giving the customer the
opportunity to return the items if not satisfied. Items ordered for
stage productions are non-returnable.
We accept payment by
debit card so orders may be made by telephone or by post with a
cheque.
Who?
SMALL TRADES
Photographs by Scott
Wishart.
These images were
inspired by the long tradition of recording tradespeople and street
types in illustrations and photographs, in particular those of Irving
Penn, whose work from the early fifties is the subject of the book
‘Small Trades’, the name of which we borrowed for this series.
We also borrowed:
Tea towels, blankets, feather duster from Labour and Wait of
Redchurch St. Market baskets and produce from Leila’s shop of
Calvert Avenue.
