The Grand Anarcho-Dandyist Ball
This was the Chap party of the decade, and anyone who missed it will have to wait another ten years for a party of this magnitude.
Taking place within the revolutionary oak-panelled walls of Conway Hall in London’s Red Lion Square, 650 guests assembled to celebrate ten years of Britain’s only gentleman’s journal.
Entertainment in the Grand Hall, hosted by Mr. David Piper, came from Chap-hop artiste, Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer, jazz devils The Zen Hussies, high-kicking flappers The Bees Knees, beautiful 1940s crooners Twin and Tonic and Mr. Flay, Victorian-style escapologist and bullet catcher. Musical shellac-spinning was ably administered by Messrs Andrew Fletcher and El Nino, late of the Zeppelin Club, Rakehell’s Revels and the Modern Times Club.
Miss Louise Quatorze, in Mao Tse-Tung’s Parlour, played host to Uneven Stephen and his Geisha Girls; Michael “Atters” Attree’s Chaporgasmic Terrors, Anthony Elvin and the Hot Potato Syncopators.
The Chap wishes to extend a cordial thanks to our sponsors, Hine Cognac, Hendrick’s Gin, Spitfire Ale and Pusser’s Rum.
LOST PROPERTY OFFICE
A rather charming bakelite snuffbox was found in the ballroom after the event. Would its owner please drop us a line via our contact page in order to reclaim it.
