The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been told that the "clock is ticking" over their lack of Netflix content.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a lucrative contract with the streaming giant back in September 2020, but have yet to provide it any real, major content.

One royal commentator has alleged that the company may not be able to afford the royal pair after a series of layoffs, as well as introducing advertising to the website.

That same commentator believes a "newly humbled" Netflix won't have much time for the Sussexes, who have yet to finish up any major projects for the platform.

Royal commentator Daniella Elser questioned whether the deal would still be fruitful for Netflix, and also mentioned the similarities to that of the Spotify deal.

Elser said: "Since that earnings call in April, Netflix has laid off hundreds of staff and made the drastic decision to finally introduce advertising to the platform.

"Can the company still afford to carry big name stars who don’t deliver on their books? Just how much patience and faith will this newly humbled Netflix have for their yet-to-perform big-name hires?

She continued: "In April, Meghan’s first outing for the audio giant called Archetypes was announced, promising a 'groundbreaking' series would launch during the northern summer.

"With only weeks to go before autumn begins, again, the clock is ticking."

A lucrative Spotify contract as well as a Netflix deal have yet to prove fruitful for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who so far have yet to release more than a handful of projects, news.com.au.
